01 — The procedure
What rhinoplasty can change, how it is done, and the risks worth understanding before you decide anything.

01.1 — What can be refined
Reducing a hump, straightening a deviation, or narrowing the bony vault.
Definition, projection and rotation of the tip cartilages.
Nostril and base width, in proportion to the eyes and mouth.
Septum, valves and turbinates — often corrected in the same operation.
01.2 — Approach
A small incision across the columella gives direct view of the cartilage. Often chosen for complex tip work and revisions. Leaves a fine scar that usually fades well.
All incisions inside the nose, with no visible scar. Suited to selected changes, with less direct exposure for the surgeon.
Your surgeon recommends an approach after examining you. Neither is better in every case.
01.3 — On the day
Usually under general anaesthesia, with an anaesthetist present throughout.
Often between two and four hours, depending on what is being changed.
An external splint protects the new shape, usually for about a week.
Many patients go home the same day or after one night, with a responsible adult.

01.4 — Honesty
The best outcome starts with realistic expectations. We will tell you what surgery can do, what it cannot, and when it is not the right choice.
01.5 — Risks
Your surgeon will go through the risks that apply to you, in writing, before you consent.
